Social Studies Reflection
The chapter I enjoyed the most this year in World History was about Ancient Greece because we learned many interesting things such as the Trojan War in which the Greeks and the people of Troy, gods, and goddesses helped heroes on both sides of the battle or that the democracy had a very different meaning to ancient Greeks than it does today. Another interesting thing was that Spartan women were strong and responsible; they ran, wrestled, and played other active sports. They had more personal rights than women in other Greek city states; they could own property and express opinions on important issues.
Some of the things that I learned in that chapter were that the Greeks believed in many gods and goddesses and they honored them in many ways. Life in Sparta centered on the army. Government officials examined newborn infants to see if they were healthy because only healthy infants were allowed to live. When Spartan boys turned seven, they were sent to military to begin training for a lifetime in the army. Another thing I learned about was the Peloponnesian War which was a war between Sparta and Athens.
New skills that I have learned in class throughout the year were map skills such as how to label the miles scale of a map. Another skill we learned throughout the year was how to create Hieroglyphics or form of writing based on pictures.
If you want to be archeologist in the future, you would first need to know about the prehistoric background on the place or the people much of which you have learned in the class. If you want to travel around the world, you would know what has happened there and that you would also know the geography of where you are going to so you are informed about were the mountains, peninsula, and others are located. These are only few of the many things that you could apply your knowledge to the real world.
Below is the picture of Meriotic language that we learned about in social studies that I researched:
